Just downloaded "The Cuckoo's Calling," the new mystery written by JK Rowling under the pseudonym Robert Galbraith. I am excited about this one. "Casual Vacancy," the character-heavy Rowling novel that got somewhat panned by a public with unreasonable expectations, was a tough read but certainly didn't deserve the bad press it received. Even though "Casual Vacancy" was an adult novel, readers expected another blockbuster like Harry. I think Rowling made a very smart move introducing what I assume will be a new series under a different name. "The Cuckoo's Calling," a mystery with a London private investigator named Cormoran Strike, did well on its own 2 feet before Rowling let the proverbial cat out of the bag. Now it's jumped to the top of the kindle list. Good for her. Looking forward to reading it. It might not be Harry, but, then again, why does it really need to be? Anyone with Rowling's talent has more than our favorite wizards up her Hogwart's dress robe's sleeve ...

Finished "The Cuckoo's Calling." Worth a read. I couldn't keep my nose out of it for 3 straight days. Now that I've read it, I can see why someone might have recognized Rowling's writing style, despite this murder mystery being nothing like the magical children's HP series. I look forward to more of the quirky and more than a little damaged investigator Strike....
